Change of Plans

“Our wedding preps had been planned with a fine-toothed comb—up to the last detail, with a Plan B—so nothing could go wrong,” cried Linda, “but . . .”

Plan A, including Plan B, went wrong. A typhoon wrecked the garden venue, the caterer backed out, and her parents who were to fly home from the US had met a car accident and were both hospitalized.

“Plans can change,” her grandfather tried to comfort her. “Now, you can start working on Plan C,” he joked.
Linda laughed nervously, sobbed, then embraced her grandpa tightly.

Various things can alter our plans in a week or even in a day: illness, natural disasters, canceled flights, and death. Good or bad, a life-changing event can pounce on us without warning, but we cannot tell when and why they come.

We can make a perfect plan, but circumstances can change it. Only the Lord’s plan remains unchanged.

“You can make many plans, but the LORD’s purpose will prevail” (Proverbs 19:21).

“The LORD of Heaven’s Armies has spoken—who can change his plans? When his hand is raised, who can stop him?” (Isaiah 14:27)

Yes, nothing on earth can be made perfect by man. We read in James 1:17, “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.”

He is the only Source of every good plan, and His every plan is good. When our own plans go awry, our God will remain consistently good to those who are His own.

Reflect and pray:
If my carefully made plan does not go exactly as I envisioned it, I would_____________.
