"Read wide and read deep" - Michellan Alagao

As part of our Buwan Ng Mga Akdang Pinoy celebration, we asked Michellan Alagao, author of The Sad Cat and contributor to Joyful Light and This Season of Grief, about some words of wisdom she can impart to readers and writers.

============

What's the best thing about being an author?

  1. Knowing you can encourage, entertain, and challenge others with your words

  2. Knowing when a reader connects with your work

  3. Anything and everything you enjoy can be “research” — reading, watching movies, talking to your friends, traveling, and so on!

What advice can you give for aspiring writers?

  1. Read wide and read deep

  2. Revise, revise, revise!

  3. Listen to your editor — the right editor is there to help you and make your work stronger!

What's your dream for Filipino readers?

  1. To read more books by fellow Filipinos

  2. To read more writers and different genres

  3. To read more, in general
